BIOIS VALLEY
The Valley with Saints at the Windows

Not everyone knows that the Biois Valley is known as the valley with saints at the windows, due to the numerous ex-voto frescoes depicting saints painted on the façades of local houses.

Canale d’Agordo features many examples of these extraordinary 17th-century artworks, closely tied to peasant life and to the rural and religious traditions that shaped the identity of these lands.
Falcade and Vallada also preserve some of these frescoes, which together form a cultural, historical, and artistic itinerary of great value.

Local people used to invoke the Saints to receive blessings, ask for protection, or safeguard their homes from disasters. Thanks to European funding and under the patronage of the Veneto Region, the artworks have been mapped and an itinerary has been created through the villages of Canale d’Agordo, Falcade, and Vallada to discover the Saints at the windows .
